What is the "Auditioning Mindfully”?

Like the Acting Mindfully Lab, this is an exploration of three pillars.

The first pillar is Mindfulness, where we delve into Mindfulness practices that will help improve focus, concentration and memory. It offers methods to cope with stress and anxiety, to be kinder to yourself and others, ways to deal with jealousy and envy, to be more empathetic of the characters you are playing, and to fully listen to others in a scene.  Through mindfulness, actors can adopt ways to self-regulate their nervous system and return to a sense of safety.

The second pillar is audition prep. What are your first steps when you get an audition? Panic? Let’s get a plan on understanding the genre, the sides and script analysis, the character, relationship to others and how your character fits into the world or the universe of the show you’re auditioning for. We’ll spend time on how to make a great self-tape including setting up a self-tape facility at home (with minimal cost). And yes, if nerves or focus is getting the best of you, we will use our Mindfulness Techniques to get us back on track.

The third pillar delves into Creative Life Coaching as a group. Through powerful questions, reflecting and journaling a greater depth of the scene and character work is found. And on a personal level, the actor can find more clarity of how to move forward in this career. Joanne is a trained Life Coach and she brings that skill into the classroom … and it is powerful!
